Undercon’s Roadway Concrete is specifically designed for underground colliery travel roads, which are subject to extreme traffic and environmental abuse. Rather than using road base material, Roadway Concrete allows for building the road once, saving time and money. A high-quality travel road is crucial for the efficient transportation of coal and men, and concreting underground roadways minimises maintenance while reducing damage to infrastructure and injuries to operators. Concreting the main gate install face guarantees a seamless fit for the BSL and the coal clearance system.

Undercon’s Roadway Concrete has extremely high punch and shear strengths, high abrasive resistance, and fast MPa strength gains. Large angular aggregates with sharp corners provide greater traction for rubber-tyred loaders and transport, while finely graded inert aggregates resist fragmentation from tracked dozers or traction chain tyre protection on heavy lifters. Fibre reinforcement can be added for high heavy traffic movement sites. Alkaline-resistant glass fibres or macro-poly fibres can be supplied to provide good impact, fatigue, and shrinkage control in all grades of concrete.

Preparation of the heading for concrete is essential to ensure a life of mine quality roadway. While it is seldom possible to remove all of the contaminated roadway material such as mud, loose coal, ballast and water, Roadway Concrete’s high MPa strength allows it to span poorly prepared sections without causing a surface failure to the roadway. Fast-setting Roadway Concrete is available for critical path time restraints, but it requires a high skill level and excellent organisation to ensure the integrity of the concrete is not compromised.
